Position: Consultant

Overview

Aequitas is a specialist communications agency working with clients operating internationally and often in emerging markets. Consultants are primarily responsible for the management of Aequitas clients and supporting the growth of the agency in line with the business plan, including support on new business opportunities and dealing with company (internal) issues.

Main Responsibilities

Client Management

  • Day-to-day management of client accounts and serve as day–to–day client contact
  • Responsible for management and delivery of client projects as per the client work plan with the oversight of the Senior Consultant/Associate Director
  • Preparing client-ready materials (i.e. reports, press releases, proposals) for client and internal meetings
  • Oversee and manage the work of assistant and junior consultants on the client team to ensure work is delivered to high standards and within deadlines
  • Prepare strategic planning and communication plans for clients
  • Oversee project administration including establishing project timelines and ensuring deadlines are met and regular review of Project Tracker with project team
  • Play an active role and lead in client meetings
  • Communicate with clients on progress, deliverables and developments
  • Lead on monthly client reporting process
  • Develop client growth strategies
  • Draft client contracts

Media & External Relations

  • Liaise and form good relationships with key media, including both UK-based and in particular journalists operating internationally
  • Deliver targeted international media coverage in Tier 1 media
  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of key communications skills, e.g. what makes a news story, how the media works, how to engage with journalists
  • Develop creative story ideas to secure media coverage across international, national, trade and specialist media
  • Understand and engage with global policy-making institutions and processes, e.g. EU, UN, World Bank and other international institutions
  • Analyse and produce policy briefings on complex issues for clients and other AEQ staff members
  • Develop business/government/political contacts
  • Contribute to the AEQ external relations strategy, including drafting blogs and other content for AEQ website and contributing to AEQ social media
  • Attend industry events on behalf of Aequitas
  • Undertake regular networking and build relationships with key contacts

HR

  • Support and mentor junior staff
  • Provide input into staff evaluations, appraisals and other reviews as requested
  • Manage implementation of an element of HR strategy as directed

Finance

  • Develop and manage budgets and assist with budgeting for client projects
  • Support billing process (invoicing), reviewing pre–bills with timely entry of timesheets

Administration

  • Maintain relationships with clients and employees
  • Help with the administration of the office
  • Answer office telephones
  • Comply with all internal policies, processes and procedures including financial management systems

Business development

  • Actively participate in pitches and demonstrate knowledge of issues by contributing ideas and strategy to proposals
  • Contribute to the preparation of proposals, tenders, briefings and reports as and when required
  • Identify new business opportunities and grow new business from existing clients

Person specification

Client experience

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ agency experience – preferably in a small to medium sized agency, or multiple agencies
  • An experienced Account Manager who has acted as the day to day point of contact on several (2-4) accounts simultaneously
  • Experience of working with complex clients operating in an international context and dealing with public policy issues
  • Experience of handling clients working across a range of areas – e.g. politics, commercial, international development, philanthropy
  • Experience of handling crisis communications situations
